FM80P is, as the title may imply, the sound of NYZ exploring FM synthesis via the voice of a Yamaha FS1R FM synthesizer and the MANIAC cellular automata sequencer. Burraston has had a long history with FM synthesis and FM80P feels very much in line with the ethos of the Cell Meditations recordings, using different frequencies for therapeutic purposes, albeit from a completely different perspective. Where other NYZ recordings can sometimes remain in stasis, surrounding the listener with a vibrational stillness, FM80P is a more active recording, dappling the stereo field with overlapping tones in all octaves, scanning for tensions to release and filling mental gaps with liquified drops of sunshine. It reminds us of a number of "ear floss" recordings that we have considered classics and utilized in medicinal capacities, such as Antti Rannisto's "Ääniesineitä", Chartier's "A Hesitant Fold" and Vainio's "Tetra", and will easily remain in your sonic medicine cabinet for years to come.

W/P by David Burraston. Recorded June 2014 at Noyzelab with MANIAC cellular automata sequencer and Yamaha FS1R. Text and design by ABM&D. This is Psoma Psi Phi number NYZ-XII, 12th in the NYZ subcatalog. David Burraston appears courtesy of Noyzelab: www.noyzelab.com
