MYZTRYZ is a tripartite assemblage of unpublished material, hailing from as far back as eleven years ago, in the Noyzelab studio. An overflowing cornucopia of pointillistic and synthesized delights, no maps or detailed notes are provided to aid the listener, offering a freefall into chaotic and overstimulating sound-worlds that could be compared to the sensation one gets listening to Coltrane's 'Ascension' for the first time. Chaos has always been close to the core of Burraston's work, both in his studies and his music, exploring and organizing microcosms of possibility, through methods both arcane and academic, and on MYZTRYZ this focus dominates. Still, for all of the complexity and surrealism present in these collage-like constructs, NYZ feels as playful as ever, with moments of hesitant uncertainty in the shadows abruptly giving way to splashing in oily puddles with childlike abandon - both approached with mathematical clarity. MYZTRYZ, for several reasons, could be considered Burraston's 'Out to Lunch' as much as it could also be a 'Greatest Hits' retrospective in some parallel universe. Everything presented here feels unique, formidable in one way or another, but still familiar, owing to Burraston's inimitable way with the machines and their systems. This is expansive, surrounding music that confounds as much as it compels - as Iggy Pop once wisely said: " What sounds to you like a big load of trashy old noise is in fact the brilliant music of a genius."
